The Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) joined REAAA as an Institutional Member in 1974. It has been instrumental in establishing the technical arm of the association since its inception and held the position of Chair of the Technical Committee until Kieran Sharp’s retirement in 2018.

ARRB is represented by Dr Mike Shackleton, CPEng, who is currently Chief Research Officer at ARRB. He has 35 years of experience in engineering, leadership and governance in Africa, Asia and Australia. His fields of expertise are low volume and unsealed roads, staff development and research governance.

His PhD research investigated how Australian road agencies value research work that they commission and critical success factors for delivering valuable R&D outcomes.
