The Katahira Award Presentation on 26 March 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The 2013 Katahira Award Presentation was presented in conjunction with the 14th REAAA Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This was the 8th presentation for this award. The Award is in honour of the late Dr. Nobutaka Katahira, a former President of REAAA, who set up a trust fund to encourage the professional development of young engineers in the region. A judging panel reviewed eligible papers and made recommendations regarding the awards.
Six technical papers were rated to be recipients for the Katahira Awards for the 14th REAAA Conference.
Two awards were given for the ‘Best Technical Paper’ went to Japan’s Kazufumi Suzuki, Fumihiko Kanazawa, Soichi Suzuki, Daisuke Watanabe and Satoru Nakamura from Japan for their paper entitled ‘ Advanced Road Management with “ITS Spot Servises”’, and to Hirotaka Sekiya, Handiyana Ariephin, Katsumi Uesaka, Pantja Dharma Oetojo , Hiroyashi Hashimoto for their paper entitled “Joint Research Project Between Indonesia and Japan for Traffic Voulume Survey Using Image Processing Technology (IPT) in Indonesia. They received USD1,000.00 and a framed certificate.
The runner-up award for the ‘Outstanding Paper’ was presented to Michiya Kitayama,Yoji Kawai, Tadashi Maruyama, Hitoshi Iguchi, Mkiko Utsuki from Japan for their paper entitled “ Unique Traffic Survey Approach for Development of Transportation Planning (Number Plate Survvey Methodology in foreign country”. The winner received USD500 and a framed certificate.
Three others were presented with USD250 and a framed certificate each for winning the ‘Highly Commended Paper’ were
- Bongju Kwon, Bumwoo Lee, Sunglin Yang, Sukkeun Rhee from Korea for their paper entitled ‘ Application of Microsufacing Method in the Seoul Metropolitan Area’.
- Nurulhuda ,Ho.J.S , Jamilah Marjan from MIROS, Malaysia for the paper entitled “ A Survey of Risk of Accident in Malaysia.
- Daijiro Miztani,Satoshi Hirakawa, Kiyoyuki Kaito from Japan for their paper entitled ‘ A Mixed Markov Hazard Model for Clarifying the Deterioration Process of Tunnel Luminaire’.
The ratings were carried out by a 5 of Member Judging Panel headed by Mr. Kieran Sharp of Australia. The judges were from Australia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore. The papers were earlier nominated and submitted by the Chairman of Technical Papers of 14th REAAA Conference, Malaysia for the consideration of the Judging Panel. The Katahira Award presentation ceremony was held as one of the highlights to mark the closing of the 14thREAAA Conference.
